“I have got so much out of Momentum.  For me it’s been about tapping into the planning and structure that Momentum provides, and the support it has given me.”

How was business for you before you started working in the Momentum programme?

Over a period of 3 years I had gone from high revenue, then plummeted to very low revenue, and ill health, then it began to rise again.

At the beginning of 2020 I set out to do better than the previous year, business was doing well, and I was feeling well, but then COVID kicked in which reduced my turnover by 40%.  I wanted to get back to my highest level of income again but do so in a very different way to before.

What was the key reason you decided Momentum was the right programme for you to join?

I had followed Karen for a while.

I looked to Momentum as being the scaffolding which was going to support me.  I didn’t want to go back to where I was before, I felt well, and I needed to harness that feeling of wellness.

When initially speaking with the coaching team I used the analogy of being at the top of a mountain, it’s very windy up there and I could  easily get blown off, so their job was to hold my ankles in the green field below and make sure I didn’t fall off again.

What have you worked on during your time in Momentum that has made a difference to you and your business?

My leap project in cycle one was health and wellbeing.  I struggled with this concept but eventually decided it would be getting back to playing the piano.  And whilst I thought the coaching team had let me off lightly and I found it weird to have this as a priority, I now completely understand why.

I then got processes in place, produced terms of business and I changed my fee structure.  Having set a target of getting paid up front one Thursday, I couldn’t believe that by the Monday morning 3 clients had paid me!

I then focused on rebranding and building a new website .

As a result I now feel more in control, and this brings me comfort to have the structures in place.  I love looking at my Trello board and ticking boxes.  It’s the methodical part of the business and shows me the pipeline I had wanted to achieve.

I now use the follow up philosophy taught by the coaching team of “contact 3 times in 10 days” – it works so well.  I used it with 3 companies I had tried unsuccessfully to contact in the previous 6 months, and 2 out of the 3 came back on the 3rd email, and lines of communication are open again.

What is it like working with Karen and the team?

They set the right balance of the structure of processes and the emotional side.  They always give straight answers and will give you an opinion.

Karen’s book is the only business book I have ever read cover to cover!

What words of wisdom would you offer others who were thinking of joining Momentum?

I’d recommend Momentum – I have got so much out of it, but I think that is because my business was in the right place.  I might not have any one specific question I have needed to ask but for me it’s been about tapping into the planning and structure that Momentum provides, and it has supported me.
