What got you here, won’t get you there

Whatever success you’ve had in recent months and years, the actions you took and the person you were to get you to this point today won’t necessarily be the same actions and choices to make in the future.

With each month passing, your vision and goals can change, new target markets appear to you, your business grows (both up and down), external factors change (seasons, interest rates, even EU memberships!) … you feel the clock ticking but you’re not moving up and realising your true potential.

Plus when you feel alone, hidden away in your office and behind your screens, it’s easy to let your Inner Critic talk you out of stepping forward to become more visible and play bigger.

You may have been told that your future success is all about mindset; dream big, believe in yourself and let your self-motivation carry you forward. But for most regular folk, people like you and me who don’t have Instagram #perfectlives, meditating on your vision board will only get you so far.

And when those abundance mantras don’t work, the default is often to “just work harder” at whatever marketing tactic or business idea you’re focusing on … which ultimately burns you out.

Focus your time on creating the right business model, marketing systems and team for each stage of your business growth, and you allow yourself to have the right environment for you to step up and play bigger.

Let’s put a stop to “work harder” and doing the stuff that keeps you small

Your Business Model

Discover how to design the right business model to support your values, business vision and well-being, and ensure you can create a profitable, sustainable and scalable business.

Your Team

Discover how to delegate and recruit the right people who will support and create your vision with you.

Your Systems

Be shown how to create simple processes and automate your lead generation, sales conversion and delivery of your products & programmes

What you’ll learn during the day

During the day, we are delivering 3 core business growth topics, all designed to give you structure and processes to put in place along with specific actions for you to take when you get back in your office.

1) Playing the Money Game

Without knowing the right numbers to keep a track of, it’s easy to find yourself creating a business that doesn’t give you what you want. Having money goals is one thing but when you know how to translate those money goals into a clear business strategy, you’ll then be able to create right revenue streams in order to make your business simpler and easier to grow.

  • Get clear on the critical numbers to know in your business
  • Discover what Profit Levers are and how you can using your pricing as one of them
  • Understand the 5 profitable business models that can leverage your expertise and help decide which one works best for you so you can avoid burn out

2) Your Client Journey

Have you ever worked out the path that each of your clients follows in order to make a decision to spend money with you? It’s rare that someone will find you and decide to buy on the spot. That may happen with impulse buys such as a new kitchen gadget or designer handbag, but for almost all businesses like yours, there will be a number of interactions and decision points that each new client makes along the way. The more you know and understand this journey, the easier it is for you to sell your products, programmes and services with elegance and ease.

  • Understand the importance of every step your client takes before saying yes to you
  • Discover how to map the Client Journey for each of your offers and decide what actions you need to take to improve your conversions
  • Recommended follow up systems to set up so you never miss a potential sale
  • Understand how to easily identify your leads and prospects so you make sure you are selling to the right people and increase your chances of getting a yes

3) Simple, Powerful Planning

A lack of planning is the cause of most business failures. And yet, most entrepreneurs are not hard-wired for such a task in their businesses. They thrive on spontaneity, creativity and being in flow, which are all important attributes to have. But without a plan in place, it’s no wonder so many business owners never quite get to where they were hoping to be. Planning doesn’t have to be dull or constrictive. With the right plan in place, it can still allow you to create and be free to have fun whilst keeping your energy and resources directed at the bigger vision.

  • Discover how planning can make all the difference to your profitability and business growth
  • How to create your Big Vision – a really simple exercise to capture what you really want to focus your time and energy on
  • How to turn your Big Vision into an actionable plan and discover what can be delegated and how you go about hiring the right person for the job
  • What is GID Energy and how can you use this to get the right things done in your business so you can grow and play bigger

Is this event for you?

Frankenstein Business – You’ve flip-flopped from one project to another, got a dozen tech tools you’re paying for & you’ve followed all the guru advice but it feels like you’ve created a mess and you’re lost what to try next.

Run out steam (energy, motivation, money) – You’ve gone hard at marketing your business, but you’re not getting the results you expected. You’ve lost your confidence and wonder why you can’t make it happen like everyone else that you see on your Facebook newsfeed.

About to hit your ceiling – You’ve got an almost full diary, clients that love you but you’re about to reach your full capacity & you haven’t got the time (or energy!) to shift up any more gears to reach your full potential.

Overwhelmed and confused –  Whether you are starting out or been going for a while, there’s no doubt growing a business feels more complicated than it’s ever been and you want to make it easier and simplify your journey.

If you’ve resonated with one or more of these situations, you’re not alone.

Getting a business up and running can be tough so it’s easy to bootstrap and do as much as possible yourself. And you’re probably realising now that trying to be everything in your business – from accountant to secretary to web designer – as well as delivering what is you are selling, well it’s not surprising that you’re stressed, overworked and feel underpaid.

And this is why you should attend this event. What got you here, won’t get you there … you have to change the way you are working and prioritise creating the success environment that will enable you to grow and play your bigger game, without the stress.

Meet Your Host For The Day

Hi, I’m Karen Skidmore, and my mission is to love and play our way to profitable, sustainable and scalable business.

I’ve been running my own coaching and consulting company since 2004. After an 11-year fast track career with Hays Plc, as Regional Director in the accountancy recruitment division and then Operations Director for online recruitment, my children were approaching school age and I realised how much I wanted a more flexible and fulfilling professional career.

Within 6 months of starting up, I had been awarded European Social Funds for my Women’s Enterprise Programme and Simply Marketing Workshops, which was instrumental in helping hundreds of women start up their own businesses across Surrey & Sussex. I founded a regional women’s networking group in 2005, created & ran a 100+ membership site for 3 years and launched dozens of online courses and group programmes over the past 13 years.

But in 2012, struggling with adrenal fatigue and hormonal imbalances, I was knackered from constantly launching new programmes and marketing campaigns. I wanted to play a bigger game but to enable my business to grow and for me to reach my full potential, it was no longer a case of “work harder”. I had to change the way I and my business worked. And it soon became apparent that my clients wanted this same change.

Through GID School, Momentum and The Academy, I’ve now created the framework and community to allow entrepreneurs, professionals, creatives and boutique business owners to simplify their businesses; to show them how to love and play their way to a profitable, sustainable and scalable business without the process impacting their health, wellbeing or family commitments.

Feedback from our Playing Your Bigger Game event in June

“I definitely got the boost and refresh that I needed – a huge shot of good, grounded, sensible, fabulous energy. I’ve been to many similar events over the years, sometimes as a participant and sometimes on the organising team, and have sometimes come away with my energy utterly depleted. This event didn’t do that to me; the energy was very different and very ‘right’.” Mary McNeil

“It’s a great event to learn how you can upscale your business.” Mark Terrell

“This event has re-energised me and helped me make connections with people who can help me on the journey.” Lindsey Burrows

“So many insights and takeaways. The one that really springs out was the session about the heartbeat of the business: sales, prospects and leads with campaigns adding/boosting revenue.” Karen Sieben

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your booking terms and conditions?

The full terms and conditions of your booking can be viewed over on this page here:

In a nutshell, all tickets are non-refundable two weeks before the event, although if you can’t attend at short notice, you’d be welcome to pass your ticket to friend or colleague (simply let us know their name before the event so we know to expect them). In an unlikely situation that we have to cancel, full refunds will be issued to everyone.

Where exactly is the venue?

Elvetham isn’t simply a stunning events venue in Hampshire, Elvetham is actually a region of approximately 8,000 acres in the Hampshire countryside.

Situated in the heart of the Hampshire countryside, it’s also incredibly easy to find and get to.

Just 10 minutes drive from Junction 5 of the M3 and 5 minutes from Fleet train station that is serviced by a fast service out of London Waterloo.

The nearest airport is Southampton, 45 minutes taxi away.

What the logistics for the day?

Want to get there early and avoid the morning traffic?

The Elvetham has a lovely lounge area so if you wanted to avoid the Friday morning traffic, you’d be welcome to arrive early to hang out, enjoy the free wifi and soak up the atmosphere.

Food and Refreshments

Coffee, tea & morning goodies are being served from 9 am, ready for us to get going at 9.30am.

You are being fully catered for as we are giving you morning goodies, lunch and afternoon tea. And yes, they can cater for all dietary requirements. We’ll be asking you to confirm this before you arrive on the day.

Although we plan to finish the day by 5 pm, if you did absolutely have to leave at the afternoon tea break because of a school pick-up, we can arrange for you to do your end-of-day session as homework.

Staying on after the event

If you are worried about getting caught in Friday night traffic, stay on and join me and my team in the bar. We will be winding down and enjoying a glass of “something” in front of the log fire.

Are you covering the same content as your event in June?

If you came to our Playing Your Bigger Game event in June, then you’d be very welcome to come back for more.

Although the themes of business model, marketing systems and small, strategic teams are still the focus of the day, we are creating fresh content in some of the sections and bringing you new ideas on what you can implement.

No two Playing Your Bigger Game events will ever be exactly the same.

What Clients Say About Karen

Working with Karen I was able to grow and expand my business awareness in a small setting with people I have got to know, and whom I trust. I felt we have pushed ourselves more in this environment, but it is also very supportive. It has also enabled me to make some big shifts in my mental attitude about things at work which I was avoiding and finding uncomfortable to deal with, and this shift has and will make a big impact on my business function and profitability.

I love working with Karen as she is tough but with silk gloves, she never makes you feel small but she also knows that you can do more than you are so, it encourages you to raise your game.

Tone Tellesfen Hughes

MD of Luck Yard’s Clinic & Chiropractic Connections

My work/life balance changed almost immediately. My goal was to work less hours so that I would have time to focus on my well being and just under a year later, I have achieved this.  I now rarely have to travel as I have two associates who were former colleagues during my time working for the NHS and they work closely with me and present on my behalf. This is something I would never have dreamed possible before meeting Karen.  I have now also been able to free up valuable time to work on my online courses and to develop and engage with my client list.

Joining The Academy has really made me up my game this year. I have been on a steep learning curve with my business marketing journey and having Karen and the rest of the group to help, support, challenge and motivate me has been invaluable in helping me make this year my best year yet. Since joining I have finally launched my signature programme “The Wardrobe That Works” (after 2 years in my head!); I have a realistic plan for my business growth as well as the support of a great team of colleagues who will give me honest and constructive feedback. This is a Mastermind Group that will really make you think differently about your business and it’s potential.
