What got you here, won’t get you there

What got you here, won’t get you there. And what worked last year, won’t necessarily work again this year. Technology, social interactions and buying habits are changing rapidly, which means you have to grow, adapt and ensure you have the right strategy and thinking to get your business where you want it to be.

Day-to-day busy-ness can distract you and when you feel alone, hidden away in your office and behind your screen, it’s easy to talk yourself out projects and plans you may not feel confident enough taking action on.

Playing Your Bigger Game is a day spent focusing on what it takes to get out of your own way and stop chasing your to-do list, and focus your attention on creating the right business model, marketing systems and team for each stage of your business growth.

What you’ll get from the day

Growth Mindset

Discover how to upscale and grow by thinking differently about your business

Strategy True To You

Get the direction and a plan that will fulfil and fuel you, and not burn you out

Connected Community

Come away feeling re-energised and connected with people who can help you on the journey

Who should attend this event

  • You have ideas but you’ve lost direction You’ve created lots of courses and programmes but now feel confused about what it is you offering and how you can make a bigger impact.
  • You have run out steam (energy, motivation, money) You’ve gone hard at marketing your business, but you’re not getting the results you expected. You’ve lost your confidence and wonder why you can’t make it happen like everyone else you see on your Facebook newsfeed.
  • You’re about to hit your ceiling Your diary is full, clients love you but you’ve reached your full capacity & you want to know how to shift up a gear to grow and serve more people.
  • You feel frustrated and confused Growing a business feels complicated and overwhelming from where you are at right now and you want to make it easier and simplify your journey.

Getting a business up and running can be tough so it’s easy to bootstrap and do as much as possible yourself. And if you are trying to be everything in your business – from accountant to secretary to marketing manager – as well as delivering what it is you are selling, you’ve realised you can’t do it all on your own anymore.

And this is why you should attend this event. What got you here, won’t get you there … you have to change the way you are thinking, the way you are working and what you are working on so you can create the growth you want.

Event Schedule

Session 1 – Your True Profit Business Blueprint

Is your business fulfilling you or burning you out? Discover which areas of your business are out of kilter with you and the way that you work. It’s not always the case of “just work harder” as not all business models and marketing ideas are going to work for you. Once you connect in with who you are, what’s important to you about what you do and the time, energy and resources you have to grow your business, you can get in flow and grow with ease.

You will also be introduced to the 4 True Profit Growth Pillars that will support your bigger game plans and the 3 phases of business growth so you know exactly what to be focusing on at each stage.

Session 2 – Growth Mindset

What does it take to think differently about you and your business? What got you here, won’t get you there. And what worked last year, won’t necessarily work again this year. In every sector and profession, technology, social interactions and buying habits are changing rapidly. So you can’t approach 2018 with the same mindset as you had in 2017.

This will be a fun and entertaining way of experiencing a different perspective and how this can impact how you think about your own business opportunities and future strategy.

Session 3 – The Client OnBoarding Process

Process is one of the 4 True Profit Growth Pillars and a key area for systemising is your sales and marketing. Lead generation and prospecting is usually the first place most business owners focus on but the Client OnBoarding Process is rarely looked at. First impressions of how you work with your client can make or break your long-term relationship. And when you spend money, time and resources attracting a new client, it makes financial sense to ensure you invest in a process that helps them come back for more and become a raving fan of your business.

Session 4 – Strategic Alliances

Knowing how to develop partnerships with other people can open up huge opportunities to reach wider audiences, reach global markets and increase your profitability. This practical session will show you how to join forces, collaborate and run joint venture marketing campaigns with other businesses.

Meet Your Host For The Day

Hi, I’m Karen Skidmore, and my mission is to love and play our way to profitable, sustainable and scalable business.

I’ve been running my own coaching and consulting company since 2004. After an 11-year career with Hays Plc, my children were approaching school age and I realised how much I wanted a more flexible and fulfilling professional career.

Within 6 months of starting up, I had been awarded European Social Funds for my Women’s Enterprise Programme and Simply Marketing Workshops, which was instrumental in helping hundreds of women start up their own businesses across Surrey & Sussex. I founded a regional women’s networking group in 2005, created & ran a 100+ membership site for 3 years and launched dozens of online courses and group programmes over the past 13 years.

But in 2012, struggling with adrenal fatigue and hormonal imbalances, I was knackered from constantly launching new programmes and marketing campaigns. I wanted to play a bigger game but to enable my business to grow and for me to serve more people, it was no longer a case of “work harder”. I had to change the way I and my business worked. And it soon became apparent that my clients wanted this same change.

Through GID School, Momentum and Ignite, I’ve created the framework and community to allow entrepreneurs, professionals and creatives to simplify their businesses; to show them how to love and play their way to a profitable, sustainable and scalable business without the process impacting their health, wellbeing or family commitments.

Feedback from our Playing Your Bigger Game events

“If you want your business to run smoothly and grow with less stress then attend this workshop.” Ruth Sangale

“Karen creates space for you to consider playing your bigger game – not only in terms of what you need to do but also shares greatly, honestly about who she needed to become.  An excellent day in fabulous surroundings.” Sue Revell

“A great gift of objectivity on your business.” Kathryn Meadows

“This day helped me pull together the fuzzy vision & shown me how to integrate planning from big picture to daily task level.” Alison Jones

“I definitely got the boost and refresh that I needed – a huge shot of good, grounded, sensible, fabulous energy. I’ve been to many similar events over the years, sometimes as a participant and sometimes on the organising team, and have sometimes come away with my energy utterly depleted. This event didn’t do that to me; the energy was very different and very ‘right’.” Mary McNeil

“It’s a great event to learn how you can upscale your business.” Mark Terrell

“This event has re-energised me and helped me make connections with people who can help me on the journey.” Lindsey Burrows

“So many insights and takeaways. The one that really springs out was the session about the heartbeat of the business: sales, prospects and leads with campaigns adding/boosting revenue.” Karen Sieben

The full terms and conditions of your booking can be viewed over on this page here:

In a nutshell, all tickets are non-refundable two weeks before the event, although if you can’t attend at short notice, you’d be welcome to pass your ticket to friend or colleague (simply let us know their name before the event so we know to expect them). Where exactly is the venue?

Elvetham isn’t simply a stunning events venue in Hampshire, Elvetham is actually a region of approximately 8,000 acres in the Hampshire countryside.

Situated in the heart of the Hampshire countryside, it’s also incredibly easy to find and get to.

Just 10 minutes drive from Junction 5 of the M3 and 5 minutes from Fleet train station that is serviced by a fast service out of London Waterloo.

The nearest airport is Southampton, 45 minutes taxi away.

What the logistics for the day?

Want to get there early and avoid the morning traffic?

The Elvetham has a lovely lounge area so if you wanted to avoid the Friday morning traffic, you’d be welcome to arrive early to hang out, enjoy the free wifi and soak up the atmosphere.

Food and Refreshments

Coffee, tea & morning goodies are being served from 9 am, ready for us to get going at 9.30am.

You are being fully catered for as we are giving you morning goodies, lunch and afternoon tea. And yes, they can cater for all dietary requirements. We’ll be asking you to confirm this before you arrive on the day.

Although we plan to finish the day by 5 pm, if you did absolutely have to leave at the afternoon tea break because of a school pick-up, we can arrange for you to do your end-of-day session as homework.

Staying on after the event

If you are worried about getting caught in Friday night traffic, stay on and join me and my team in the bar. We will be winding down and enjoying a glass of “something” in front of the log fire.

Are you covering the same content as your previous Play Bigger events?

If you’ve come to one of previous Playing Your Bigger Game events, you’d be very welcome to come back for more.

Although the themes of planning, processes, teams and growth mindset are still the focus of the day, we create fresh content in the core training sessions and bring you new ideas on what you can implement.

No two Playing Your Bigger Game events will ever be exactly the same and we’d love to see you back again in the community.

What Clients Say About Karen

Working with Karen I was able to grow and expand my business awareness in a small setting with people I have got to know, and whom I trust. I felt we have pushed ourselves more in this environment, but it is also very supportive. It has also enabled me to make some big shifts in my mental attitude about things at work which I was avoiding and finding uncomfortable to deal with, and this shift has and will make a big impact on my business function and profitability.

I love working with Karen as she is tough but with silk gloves, she never makes you feel small but she also knows that you can do more than you are so, it encourages you to raise your game.

Tone Tellesfen Hughes

MD of Luck Yard’s Clinic & Chiropractic Connections

My work/life balance changed almost immediately. My goal was to work less hours so that I would have time to focus on my well being and just under a year later, I have achieved this.  I now rarely have to travel as I have two associates who were former colleagues during my time working for the NHS and they work closely with me and present on my behalf. This is something I would never have dreamed possible before meeting Karen.  I have now also been able to free up valuable time to work on my online courses and to develop and engage with my client list.

Joining The Academy has really made me up my game this year. I have been on a steep learning curve with my business marketing journey and having Karen and the rest of the group to help, support, challenge and motivate me has been invaluable in helping me make this year my best year yet. Since joining I have finally launched my signature programme “The Wardrobe That Works” (after 2 years in my head!); I have a realistic plan for my business growth as well as the support of a great team of colleagues who will give me honest and constructive feedback. This is a Mastermind Group that will really make you think differently about your business and it’s potential.
