Systems, Platform & People
Learn how to break the ‘do it all yourself’ habit, no matter what experiences you have had in the past, and how to attract, hire and empower a top talent team.
There comes a time in any business where growth slows down. You may have been on a roll and business was good last year, but in recent months you have grown increasingly frustrated by your exhaustion, your continual busy-ness and lack of space to think beyond the next few weeks.
Right now, with the current economy, experienced trainers, coaches and consultants are comfortably selling £150K to £250K worth of services and programmes with a small support team.
But the bigger the contracts, the more programmes you sell and the more clients you attract, the less of you there is to go round. The dynamics of your working relationships with your clients start to change and there’s every chance you are feeling over stretched.
Your business can start to feel like project management hell; you begin to drop some balls and you don’t get the chance to catch your breath or take the time out to work on your own development because you are spending all your time either working with clients or working on the projects to support your business structure and processes.
You think you are a business owner, but your current work schedule has pushed you back to becoming a busy freelancer again, simply at a higher revenue.
If you want to grow you and your business beyond this point, then this is the time when you have to stop treating your business as something you DO, and start getting clear about WHO you want to BECOME … the role you want to play, and the bigger impact you want to make.
Move from DOING lots of things, to BEING a business leader and FEELING in control of your success
It’s time to develop your CEO Mindset.
First … let’s address who exactly is a CEO?
A CEO is technically the Chief Executive Officer, the top role of an organisation and responsible for implementing the plans and policies, as well as setting the strategy and direction of the company.
Yes, you are the founder and company director of your business, but it’s natural to assume that to be a CEO, you have to be in charge of a big company, with hundreds of employees.
Google images of a CEO and you’ll scroll down hundreds of grey suited men and women standing in power poses; arms crossed or leaning on a big desk, with the New York skyline behind them.
But if we were to take a snapshot of your life …
You are a midlife woman, often in jeans or sportswear, working from home, sometimes sweeping breakfast bowls into the sink to make room for your laptop on the kitchen counter.
You are juggling meetings between the family taxi schedule and elder care responsibilities. Life and business mixes into one heady cocktail and you may look cool, calm and in control when on camera but in those in-between times, your furrowed brow is hurting from the multiple tabs open in your brain.
Not quite the CEO image that society projects on to us.
And if women don’t already have enough to contend with, midlife can hit you like a freight train!
If you are already experiencing levels of stress, peri-menopausal symptoms such as brain fog, fatigue, raging headaches, aching bones and hot sweats, can slow you down and be incredibly frustrating and exhausting.
At a time in your life when you are deciding to step up and want to take your business to the next level, the stress and strain of trying to work within the confines of modern-day expectations, systems and deadlines, whilst on a midlife journey, can adversely affect your progress, and even end up causing you to drop out of the race because you are frankly too knackered and feel you can’t be arsed.
Here’s the truth about your next level business growth …
It is possible to grow a business, and lead a community project or movement, and even take on the world, whilst juggling families and elder care … you just can’t do it from an exhausted, frustrated, burnt out shell of yourself.
Nor can you take your business to the next level by just working harder at your business development, marketing and sales.
Because without engaging your CEO Mindset, and allowing yourself to step fully into your business leadership, you will stay stuck as a busy business owner and freelancer, not quite achieving what it is you really want.
And you’ve got to ask yourself, what is it really going to take to shift yourself forward when there are no more hours in the day and you are already working as hard as you possibly can right now?
If this is hitting a nerve, then now is the time to slow down, stop spending your week DOING anything and everything, and join me for three days to discover how to take your business to the next level and step fully into your CEOship.
What is Elevate going to give you?
Three days with me to deep dive into what it takes to create your next level growth strategy, as well as embracing who you need to become to allow it to happen.
You are going to have the space and time to truly reflect and open up your view of your world to see what’s really possible, and connect and share openly with the other women in the room and forge life long friendships.
What you are going to get over these three transformational days:
- Get clarity on your bigger vision and the legacy you want to create, and leave with a clear strategy on how to implement, and ALLOW it to happen (rather than use drive and make it happen)
- Design your Dream Team and learn how to attract, hire and empower a top talent team
- Define who you need to be and what it really takes to become a CEO and take your business growth to the next level
- Understand the power of partnerships and collaboration, and how to grow your own partner ecosystem
- Learn how to awaken and deepen your access to your intuition, spirit and soul, rather than relying on thinking your way to growth and potentially burning out in the process
- Realise the difference between striving for success, and thriving because of your success
- Learn the power of managing your energy flow, rather than relying on project and time management, and change your perspective on what productivity is so that you can achieve more in your professional work than you ever thought possible
- Discover your full impact potential, learn how you can use your business as a force for good, support a charity or cause that’s important to you and grow a business that is both profitable and purposeful
- Get shown how to break the patterns of behaviour that keep you in freelancer and business owner mindset, and develop new rituals and practices to harness the power of your CEO mindset
- Network and connect with a group of high performing women and forge life long friendships
- Space, away from everyday interruptions to allow clarity of thought, as well as time to nurture your mind, body and soul to refuel you for your onward journey.
Who is Elevate for?
Elevate has been designed specifically for established business owners who have been successfully trading for two or more years.
- You will already have a small team in place; perhaps someone to support the day-to-day operations, a marketing assistant who runs your social media content or who sets up your marketing campaigns or even have one, two or more associates delivering some or all of your programmes or services.
- You may already have strong revenue streams in place, but what’s really lacking for you is the know-how needed for your next stage of growth. You are looking to expand but if your diary is booked out with client work and delivery for the next few months, you lack the time, energy and perhaps even confidence to strategically plan.
- You want to get off the hamster wheel of life and business, take a breath and feel more in control of your life and business.
Please note: This retreat is not right for anyone just starting out (unless it is your second or more business).
If you would like a conversation first and talk to Karen to see if this retreat is right for you, and the stage of business you are at, book a call to talk through your options.

I don't consider myself to be a CEO; my business is not big enough. Is this retreat right for me?
A CEO is technically the Chief Executive Officer, the top role of an organisation and responsible for implementing the plans and policies, as well as setting the strategy and direction of the company, and yes, it’s natural to assume that, to be a CEO, you have to be in charge of a big company, with hundreds of employees. But no matter what your size, if you don’t spend some of your working hours thinking and behaving as a CEO, you spend your time as a busy business owners.
So as long as your business has been established for two years or more, you already have a small team in place (perhaps someone to support the day-to-day operations, a marketing assistant who runs your social media content or even have one, two or more associates delivering some or all of your programmes or services), and you have ambitions to shift your business up in multiple six figures or beyond, then this retreat is perfect for you.
Do I have to share a bedroom?
Absolutely not! You will have your own double room, all to yourself, with no extra single supplement, for two nights included in the retreat price.
I have dietary requirements. Are you able to cater for me?
Absolutely yes. All food and refreshments are covered whilst you are at the retreat, and we will checking in with you and asking for any specifics you require before you arrive. The hotel can provide for anything that you need.
Meet Your Retreat Hosts
Business Books Awards finalist 2020, podcaster, and business mentor with 25+ years’ experience, Karen helps entrepreneurs step into their CEO-ship, uniquely combining the being-ness and doing-ness of business to grow purpose-driven businesses. She knows that most business owners and leaders are burning out, trying to drive their business and life forward. And Karen knows this from first-hand experience.
She has run her own coaching and consulting company since 2004. After an 11-year career with Hays Plc, her children were approaching school age and she realised how much she wanted a more flexible and fulfilling professional career.
Within 6 months of starting up, she was awarded European Social Funds for her Women’s Enterprise Programme and Simply Marketing Workshops, which was instrumental in helping hundreds of women start up their own businesses across Surrey & Sussex. She founded a regional women’s networking group in 2005, created & ran a 100+ membership site for 3 years and launched dozens of online courses and group programmes over the past 13 years.
But in 2012, struggling with adrenal fatigue and hormonal imbalances, Karen was burnt out from constantly launching new programmes and marketing campaigns, exasperated by dealing with grief from losing her father to cancer two years previously. She fought with her health; trying to find ways to fix her low energy levels, severe brain fog and aching body, and struggled to keep up with work and family life. After admitting that she had to change the way she was using her body, as well as the way she was working, she begun to realise she had far better outcomes when she started to embrace her journey. And it soon became apparent that many of her clients wanted this same change.
She now leads her Momentum community, along with her team, and is also Ambassador for The Hunger Project, leading the Unleashed Women movement here in the UK. She’s also written two books and is a Menopause Champion, hosting her annual Embrace Festival and developing menopause support programmes for organisations.
Joining Karen as co-host for the day is Melina Abbott.
Melina joined the Momentum Team in 2019 as the Senior Coach to support the continuing growth of our Momentum community. She is incredible at helping our members get the right mindset for selling, spotting patterns and digging into limiting beliefs.
We see a lot of people stumble and get frustrated that they aren’t making the leap that they want to make; they think they have all the right marketing, team and business processes in place but they aren’t moving forward or expanding their reach. Melina will be on hand to help spot any of these patterns in the work that we do together during the retreat.
Alexia is our Client & Operations Manager and runs Karen’s business like clockwork.
She has been supporting Karen since 2007 so she knows exactly what our clients and community members need to help them in their business growth journeys.
As well as running our events, she personally welcomes all new members into our Momentum community and runs the day to day logistics of a growing and expanding coaching and training company. If you need any logistical info for the day, including timings, joining links and follow up resources, Alexia is the go-to person to reach out to. You can contact her at [email protected]
Karen has helped me focus on the right things to become CEO and leader of my business
“Working on my own in my own business had been fine, but I was ready for the next stage. I’d started to bring a team of associates together, to make greater use of Zoom for delivery now that all our programmes were online rather than ‘in the room’, and to think about how I could develop a passive income stream. I knew I needed some help to figure out – and take – the next steps. In short, I wanted to become more of a CEO of my business.
With Karen’s support, I worked on building a team and how to share my vision for the company with them, so that I could step into the role of the CEO. One of my values is abundance and what I am creating is something a little bit different – a business that is more friendly and warm and supportive because I know that when you’re out on your own, you need that. I was able to be really open with my team, partly because it’s part of who I am, but partly because I’ve been an associate for others and transparency is important. It’s how I want to run my business.
My work with Karen has highlighted some of the gaps in knowledge of running a bigger business, with a different operating model. It was the prompt I needed to dig deeper and be able to access the data in order to make decisions. Now, just being in control of the model and the important figures makes me feel more like the sort of person who is strategic. Karen helped me to focus on the right things as CEO and leader of my business.”
Working with Karen has been a business catalyst for speeding up my growth. Being stretched and challenged has been incredible.
“I needed to have someone externally to talk things through with; to discuss the strategic direction of my business and being challenged around the right things to do. In the early days, it was really easy to beat myself up. I was really impatient and felt a lot of frustration, as I wasn’t seeing the results quickly enough, but working with Karen, I can honestly say that the last eighteen months I have grown the most I have ever grown in my career. The work I have done with Karen has been instrumental in this. The stretch and support from someone saying “you really can do this” is incredible.
Karen has really challenged me to say yes, and then think how was I going to do it. She has got me to take some pretty bold actions, which got me my first high profile interview, so being able to talk through my options and getting feedback on this strategy was a real turning point for me and the business. She has also helped me simplify things, and in doing so, this took the pressure off my shoulders. Before this, I was always in the future, racing ahead and in my head too much, so I’ve learnt the power of stopping to review and celebrate successes.
Karen has been a business catalyst for speeding up my growth. Being stretched and challenged, and learning from Karen’s experience has been incredible. I like to surround myself with people who stretch me, but don’t treat me as though I am ignorant.”
“Karen is a highly engaging, energetic professional who I have had the pleasure of working with over the last three months. Karen has a real passion and expertise in supporting you align your core values around all aspects of your life including your business, allowing you to remain focused on the right results. Karen creates the spark that we all need in life and I have no doubt we will continue to work together for many years to come.”
Not only is Karen highly experienced, she also has an incredibly intuitive way of just knowing what you need to do to take your business to the next level. Karen is very approachable – her style is soft yet strong, insightful, knowledgeable – she gets what you need and helps you get it done too. She is willing to challenge you too and call out what you are not doing when you should be!
At every meeting, I am impressed with how well Karen is able to get inside the skin of my business. Not only does she offer her expertise generously and without ego, she does it in a way which both challenges and supports. Her ability to hone in on what is needed NOW in my business, and how she helps me find ways to prioritise that through all my busyness, is so helpful. For the first time in years I feel I am truly working on my business and not just in it.
Working with Karen is like having a non-Exec Director in your business and for that I am truly grateful.
